22re metal rattle noise coming from engine (timing chain?)

92 pickup 22re, 100k miles. About a month ago I replaced timing chain, tensioner, metal guides, new water pump and oil pump. A day or two ago i noticed a metal rattle noise coming from the engine in the timing chain area that i never heard before. You can start to hear the noise at around 2k rpms. Anyone have any idea? Listen closely in the videos.

I listened to it twice and I can't tell you what it is. I'm no expert. Now, what I would do is remove the valve cover and look down there. Look at the guides, see if the passenger side one is broke and try to look at the tensioner, see if its pushing against the chain. [I know visibility isn't good] If you can't see much then buy or borrow a bore-scope to look down there into the timing cover. Check out the cover on the passenger side for rubbing marks. Maybe someone else has an idea?

When did you "just" do it? If you just fixed it and it just started making noise then you have a strong clue. Did you also do the oil and water pump? I think anyone replying here would say go in there and start looking.
Rule out some things. Take the fan belt off and start it. With the waterpump NOT turning does it still make noise? If it does then move on. Check everything you took apart. My 2 cents
Good luck

Noises can be a funny thing

Pull the valve cover and look . Just what brand parts did you use ??

Lots of poor quality on the market

Loose heat shield some place .

Just had a friend with a strange rattle noise turned out some of the muffler baffles broke loose . Not being able to see anything he found it quite by chance.

22re metal rattle noise coming from engine (timing chain?)

Check ur pulleys are they moving at all when the truck is on at idle or are they staying in one place I had a noise that drove me crazy for a while found out it was front main seal on my main pulley I only noticed it when I looked at 2 22res running side by side and I looked down at the main one and it seemed "wobbly" had a buddy take a look hard work but glad I did it. Also check if it only happens in gear or load does it happen at idle ? After its heated up or is it just there as soon as the engine is running

Sorry to revive a ridiculously old thread, but I have exactly the same sound coming on consistently at about 2200 rpm whether in neutral or driving. Did you ever figure out what was causing it?

You’d be better off starting a new thread. Give details on the vehicle, work done, and symptoms. The better quality and details you provide will get you more responses.

You're right. I only replied to this one because it's the exact sound in the video. Thank you 👍🏼
