Is this 85 Fourunner worth it?

Here is a link to a 85 fourunner http://chattanooga.craigslist.org/cto/5059709719.html

I've been in contact with the owner he said the lowest dollar is its $4000.

Myself I don`t think so.

This looks like a case where all the labor and parts he paid to be installed there now trying to make it all back.

I would much rather have seen pictures of the engine bay and of the frame sections prone to rust. The lift kit installation etc

Just what it is worth comes down to just how bad you think you need to own this truck. If this is just what you want !!

Then I have no clue what these vehicles might bring in your part of the country.

If it is close a in person look can`t hurt .

I have yet to buy a 4x4 and not spend @ $1000.00 to catch up on neglected maintenance not done in favor of mall crawler bling!!

He's got an old repainted truck with too big of a lift and too big of tires for stock gears. Out of the box, you'll be trying to lower it or save up for new gears or trade the tires for a smaller size.

If you are shopping around, and its close enough to go see, check it out and drive it. It will start giving you an idea of what's out there.

Unless you want a rebel mud truck, keep looking.

For that much, it would have to be in better shape. A white truck, red doors and the door jam side of the A pillar is painted, may have windshield leak rot.

He said the work was done here Fairburn Ga from Pro Power Engines. Has anybody ever dealt with these people ? There is 200 miles on the motor and I asked him if he's running stock gears.

I'd look him hard in the eyes and ask why he wants to sell it so soon after getting it running.

Be very very skeptical of any sob story that he lays down.

Something has the Alarms going off here!!!

200 miles on a fresh engine Danger Danger !!

While it would be good experience to check out any 4x4

If you are at all serious and it passes your inspection.

I would want in writing that the people who did the engine will stand behind it.

Now I have had people in the past refer to a used engine of unknown mileage as new because it was in fact new to the vehicle in question .

As this is a 4 Runner is there the hard top to go with this ??

Yes the hard top is in the first picture . I'll think I'm going to keep on look for a Toyota truck or a Jeep Wrangler.

Agreed. Definitely doesn't seem worth the price to me. Nothing to write home about cosmetically and doesn't seem to have enough offroad/aftermarket parts to make it a rig that won't need to be modded to get it where you want it to be.

I cannot agree more! Been there, done that, too many times

To me that 4Runner looks like it has been wheeled and jerry-rigged. I also agree with the posts above that a a "new" engine is not always new. I would keep looking, or if you really want it, check it out closely (or have a mechanic look at it). Tell him what you are willing to pay after looking at it. When no one pays $4000, he might just end up calling you a few weeks later to accept your offer. If not, it is does not look like a loss.
