For a 1988 22re....Anyone make a nifty dipstick like my Honda CRV with the little holes a full and empty to show those levels....I pull mine now and oil is spread everywhere for 3 inches....take a guess....Charlie

 

I am not sure what year your CR-V is but I read the dipsticks the same way on my dad's '05 CR-V and my '87 22R.

The CR-V has 2 holes as the level markers where my truck has two stamped lines as the level marker.

Not sure what you mean.

I have only seen the stamped type for our trucks...

 

You could drill a couple holes......

 

flip it over and read the level on the backside of the stick, it's easier to see there.

there are problems with different lengths of dipstick tubes and such on these 22re's, so what i did was change both the filter and the oil, putting in the recommended fill amount, then mark the high spot by putting scratch marks on the dipstick.

just remember that there are oil reservoirs in the head, that the cam lobes dip into, so it's not a perfectly empty fill... although maybe the factory already compensated for that?

 

With new oil very hard to see.With the holes if there is oil there you are good to go...When I pull and wipe It seems oil is left in the tube that ends up on the dipstick next try..That is why I loved Hondas method...The Toyota's dipstick is not very wide so I must find a very small drill... Now I wipe the stick and push it almost all the way in, then let the oil in the tube settle over night then push it in for a clean reading...I change the oil every 3k and it is not much dirtier than when I put it in...I know that seems too ofter but I am in a sever climate ....(dust). Have 4 vehicles over 200K and the Toyota pickup has 150K...I do nothing else special....Charlie

 

Yea it's a little hard to read with clean oil. I usually have to wipe the dipstick off then leave it out for 5-10 minutes to allow oil in the tube to drip off.


When trying to read it looking at the back for height then rotating it to see the marks works.

 

Thanks...I now wipe the dipstick put it in except 3 " wipe the paper towel around it to hole it up a little , then wait an hour and it is easy to see...
