rebuild tranny or drop a salvaged one in there?

Hey guys-

Just got off the phone with an Aamco tech reccomended by my normal Yota shop. Transmission is toast after 250k on my 2001 V6 SR5... He quoted me about $2200-$2400 out the door including a new torque converter as well. Comes with a 2 year, 25,000 mile warranty.

Found a local salvaged tranny from a '97 V6 with a claimed 150k on it for $500 including a torque converter too.

Waiting for a call back from my normal garage to see what they recommend I do and get a quote for installing the salvaged transmission.

Realistically, I would really just like to get another 2 years out of the truck. The warranty from Aamco is appealing but then again, so is the price on the salvaged..

Just wanted to throw it out there for any input yall may have before making the decision

I have a 98 trans with 200k on it that shift perfectly. I recently had a torque converter built for it and tech said it looked perfect. Many original trans going 350k+ miles. Salvage trans FTW. $109 for pick n pull trans here.

Yep, go with the salvage trans for sure, for that price difference you could get 3 of them and still come out ahead.

Only reason to rebuild a trans is to build it IMO.

Salvage works for me, but if I wanted a rebuilt, I would look into https://www.marlincrawler.com/transm...built-complete these. Well known and has a great reputation.
