86 4Runner Idle Air Control Valve

I purchased a 86 4Runner & it was having a hard time idling during a cold start. I read a few forums & found the problem to be the idle air control valve. I am having a hard time finding a replacement. I also need the idle air control valve connector.

Toyota has informed me the IAC valve has been discontinued. I have tried several Internet sites & local auto parts stores. Toyota has also informed me the IAC valve connector is available but I would need to bring the part into their store to match the last five of the part number. I see no visible numbers that are legible.

PLEASE HELP

On all these engines I have had of that vintage I have never had one of those that worked.

The bi metal spring inside gets old and tired after 20 plus years .

When the coolant hoses start leaking I just looped a hose and called it good.

If the numbers are worn off the plug unless your parts guys are really good they might not be able to find your plug.

Perhaps the one used for the 95 22re could be made to work if it can still be had.

Perhaps the ones from the southwest might hold up better. Anyone Know??

Yeah tons of Air Valve threads.

The Air Valves usually get clogged with carbon over time. Cleaning them helps in some cases. Verify proper coolant flow to the valve. Restrictions cause operation issues. Check the temperature sensor for the engines computer. Poor temp signal... poor valve performance.

Other wise a used valve is your only option. Troll eBay or junk yards.
