Whats up everyone, I've been a long time visitor but never joined b/c I didn't have a toyota. Last Saturday that all changed though, found a 97 taco x-cab sr5 4x4, has 51K on the odo and the thing is cherry. It came with a shell, bedliner, hitch, both the liner and hitch look brand new, like I said cherry.


Anyways look at going ahead and putting 4 new tires on it since the two rear ones are just about worn out. I tried the search function already and didn't come up with anything. I am looking for something that handles sand and snow and occational mud. During the summer I take weekend trips to NC and drive on the beach and during the winter I am on snow/ice moutain roads at school. Can you guys give me some good options to choose from.

Also looking to put in an Alpine CDA-9830 headunit since it doesn't have a CD player right now. I have heard good things about Alpine and want to see everyone's opinions before I drop the cash on it.

 

Sounds like you got a good deal. How much did you pick it up for? Tires I would recommend are the BFG AT's. They work great in sand and are a good all around tire. I have a Pioneer deck and was told that they are the best for the money. I think Pioneer/Alpine are the same company, Alpine being their higher priced brand.

 

Welcome to Yotatech. I like the Bridgestone Dueler AT's although not sure how they handle in mud.

 

They do ok in the mud. I went out in them once, and this was the result:



Almost got stuck, but my finely tuned mud driving skills got me out.

I think they're a pretty good all around tire.

 

Well I picked it up for 12K(including all the hidden fees) at a used ford dealer. I know its not the cheapest place but I talked them down from 14,999. They usually go for around 10K but have almost or close to 100K. So for the mileage and how clean it was I would say its worth 1K plus the shell bug deflector and a few other things I would have bought anyways was worth another 300-500. So in my mind they still made around 500, I don't think they would have gone any lower anyways.

I have seen the BF T/As before, infact thats basically the only tire my dad will buy. I have seen the Goodyear Wrangler MT/Rs heard they were good in snow and mud, do you think they are too aggressive for sand?

 

Yeah, I was going to say Dueler too but I don't really know enough about that to recommend.

Would the Duelers be better than BFG A/Ts?

if you can afford it, get the bf goody t/a ko's. My buddy has the duelers on his jeep grand cherokee and he likes mine better. They look a lot better but perform the same in the mud from what we can tell. But aired down, the t/a's don't seem like they can be beaten. The duelers were just as expensive where i live so i just got the bfg.

Another vote for BFG KO's here. I have no experience with Duellers, so I cant say.

 

I have the MTR's and really like them but I dunno how they do in sand. They do really well on road and of course in the mud.

 

I can tell you what NOT to get. Dont buy Dunlops. Dunlops came on my truck when I bought it used. I don't have much good too say about them other than they look pretty good on the truck.

I think many here will agree with me.

 

I vote for the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos. I just bought some and am thoroughly impressed with both their on-road and off-road ability. They did pretty damn well in the slippery mud recently at hollister, and they're especially good in the rain. I haven't had them in the snow yet but they're supposed to be great. In addition to this, they are very quiet on the road and handle quite well. I believe they're actually quiter then my Old Michellin LTX ATs even thought the tread is much more aggressive. I bought the E rated version but I think the extra $$$ will be worth it.

 

I really like my Michelins, but will probably get Revo's next.

I run the MTR's on my 4Runner, however, they do not have the longetivity I am thinking you would like. I do run the BFG All Terains on my Super Duty (sorry guys) and I love them, they work out great...Very nice traction even when we tow things in the dunes
