A big honkin' wire? Do you have a connection to the "A" stud on the alternator?

Your wire is probably the "Battery" connection to the alternator. If you hooked it to ground, you probably blew the 80amp ALT fuse in the under-hood fuse panel. (And if that fuse wasn't blown before, you would have one hell of a fireworks show!) That would de-energize AM1, and your truck is going nowhere.

On my 92 22RE, there's 3 connectors on that wiring harness. One plugs into the back of the alternator, one is the thick wire that bolts to the batt terminal on the back of the alternator, and a white wire with a black stripe that bolts to the cylinder head. There is no yellow wire with an eyelet.

Isn't the thick wire, bolted to the alternator, yellow?

Could paddyb have reversed the yellow and black-white?

I can't see the wire color on the bat wire to the alternator, it's shielded. If he did reverse them it will have blown the fuse and/or fusible link. A test light to the bat terminal should verify that.
