I'm getting a 81 Toyota SR5 4x4 tomorrow and want to know if anyone has installed the better 83 SR5 4x4 blade fuse box and wiring harness? If so, how easy was the swap, or is there a lot of modify to make it work?

I also have a 81 4x4 that is in the rebuild stage and I am going to replace the old harness with an aftermarket 21 circuit wiring harness. I'm working up to replace all the gauges with electrics and adding other circuits that I want. I find that the usual circuits are easy to run for the most part and I'm going remove some of the things I'm not going to use particular to Toyota. The wiring diagrams and instruction are easy to follow for the most part.

You can find aftermarket wiring harness on Ebay or internet, such as Painless, EZ Wiring, Jegs, etc. Most have blade fuse blocks with the relay attached. Good luck if you find an unmolested used wiring harness.

 

I'd rather find a factory harness and cluster as it's original equipment, and probably cheaper than going the aftermarket parts method.
