Need help making definitive id on the year of a 22r

I'm about to buy the 22r this manifold came off, to use for long block replacement for my 85 22re.
The engine is still in the truck so it can be started & driven by potential buyers. That's why I can't just look at the head/exhaust port.
I'm fairly sure it is a 85-up, but fairly isn't sure enough to tell him it's sold & hold it for me.
So was this the manifold on a 85-up or pre 85 22r?
Thank you for your time & any help.

This is supposed to be off a 86'.
It looks like the pear shape from the ports has left pear shaped marks on the mating surface in carbon.
But I'm no 2.4 yota expert by any means, I've never even pulled a manifold off one.
Someone PLEASE throw me a bone here.

Can you show the head on the block? That would be more easily to tell.

Thank you Terrys87.

These are the only pictures I have.
The engine is still in the truck, so I can't see the head w/out the manifold.
The manifold in the first post is the original off this 22r, before it was swapped. The manifold on it now is from the current truck.

Looking at the valve cover, that is an 85 or newer block. Valve covers are interchangeable though. Looking at the exhaust ports would be better.

Does it have a place for a Knock Sensor or a Fuel Filter bracket on the passenger side? If it has those two abilities, it is an 85 or newer. If not Knock Sensor or Fuel Filter bracket it is 84 or older. That is how I tell the quickest way for me.

Look at the bottom 2 pictures https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...l#post51960488 of the Timing Chain Cover for a little more help.

Thank you Terry, I haven't seen the 6K as a way to id them in the dozens of threads & pages I've read.
This may be a dumb question but.. are the 85-up 22r covers the same as 22re down to the 6K casting mark?
I know I've read 85-up r/re are identical less induction, but I'd like to hear directly from someone who knows for sure.
Thank you again for your time & MASSIVE HELP.

The 85 and up 22r and 22re are identical motors. You are correct that it is the induction system. Just the newer the motor, the more emissions they added.

Here is another way to see if it is 85 or newer. If it has the bolt holes for the Fuel Filter Bracket and the Knock Sensor just in front of it. If it does not have these it is 84 and older.

Thanks again Terry, I'm on the way to pick it up. . If it is a late model.
That knock sensor will probably be easier to see & keep me from having to crawl around in the snow to check the t - chain cover.
I really appreciate all the time & help.
