Ok about two months ago my timing chain ate through the cover. After pulling the head and timing chain cover i decided to pull the block and replace the bearings. So i ordered new bearings and installed them everything looked fine.

So after reinstalling the engine my thrust washers stacked up and ruined my crank. Bought a refurbished crank that had been ground .10 and new bearings. Reinstalled the engine and it turned over fine. couple squirts of carb cleaner and its started but wasn't getting fuel. While diagnosing the fuel problem the engine started to turn slower and lockup. Now it turns then stops bump the starter and it will turn over 360 then stop again. I checked my grounds and pulled the plugs which made it turn quicker. But with the plugs back in it it stops every 360.

So just wanted to see if you guys had any ideas thanks abunch.

At any time did you measure anything ??

One crank journal out of round.

Did you use the same pistons and rods ?? get them mixed up installing them.

could be a few things .

As you know something is tight at that spot you just need to figure out where.

 

With the plugs out, I would turn it by hand with a socket. I would not use the starter and try to locate the bind that way. I too would suspect the bottom end like journal, other areas I would check would be timing chain, something in the head and if all that checked out, would start looking at the clutch or tranny and see if there is an issue there.

If it is doing it at a full 360 degree, it does sound like it is in the motor. Are you sure your starter isn't causing any issues?

 

I made sure not to mix anything up and i did plastigauge don't remember the exact numbers but they were in spec. The starter seems fine and i just installed the clutch in may. I will go check with a socket when i get the chance.

K i turned it over with a breaker bar and it didn't seem to bind up at all. I also noticed when i try to start it the negative battery post started smoking?

 

I pulled the engine and tore it down and i found if i loosen the nuts on rod no.2 it turns over way easier. So any suggestions on what might be the solution?

After rechecking my rings and bearings i found when i torque connecting rod no.2 it locks everything up. So is there any way for me to check if my rod is out of round?

Is the cap on the wrong way? And check the clearance with plastigage.

 

Cap is on the way i took it off may try reversing just in case tough. Plastigage shows within spec. Is there anyway to check if the rods out of round at home?

Your help is much appreciated.

 

Only way I would know to check would be with a micrometer at several different check points.
