22re died, started, & now nothing? Plz help. Thanks.
Ok 85 22re w/someone else driving, died...finally restarted for a min & died again. Now towed back won't even turn over.
I'm thinking (& hoping) fuel pump failure & dummy burned up the starter.
Could I be close in my guess? He said no noise from engine before or after it died.
What should I check & or do to figure out if it needs a rebuild or just a pump, fuse, starter ect.
Turn over manually & check compression? Then?
My last Yotas were 22r with no problems ever, so I know basically nothing technical about the 22re. & the other were 3.0s.
Thanks for any help.

You need to start at the basic level.
Break out the Multimeter check the battery voltage .
If the battery is dead and it is below freezing good chance if it is not in a heated garage it is now frozen.
You need your battery charged to do much trouble shooting.
Go from there.
It could be fuel related it could be electrical.

Make sure your battery, connections, grounds are all good.
Remove the larger hose off of the back of the fuel rail near the fire wall, that goes to the Return Line to the tank. With the below jumper, (drivers fender), install jumper, run hose to a container and when you turn the key on, see if it pumps fuel. That lets you know if your pump is working.
Here is how you do a Fuel Pump Bypass on the 85/86.
Jumper wire the Yellow Plug on Drivers side. ( Jumper wire should be in both contacts for testing, I just didn't have it in for picture purposes and mostly a reference for me at a later time.)

If you are getting fuel, You need to see if you are getting spark to the plugs. If you are getting spark to the plugs, I would check my timing after that and see what you have after that. Before I really get into troubleshooting an engine, I start with a good tune up. Plugs, wires, filters, rotor/cap...
On a 22re, you have to have the air filter pipe and electrical connections hooked up to run. No vacuum leaks. Since it was running, I am assuming no major damage. Eventually I would do a compression test.
