2000 Tacoma. I'm going to do upper and lower ball joints on both sides and inner/outer tie rods. I'd prefer to use OEM Toyota parts. Who/what site has the best pricing?

There are many Toyota dealerships online selling parts much cheaper than you can get them over-the-counter at the dealership. Toyota of Dallas is good as are the two that I personally use in my sig below.

Like was said search around online for dealers selling parts at a discount.

When I got mine a few months ago I think I found them for ~$8x.00. Ended up going to the local dealer where they sometimes hook me up with a discount and got them for $95 which was about the same price once shipping was added in.

I use camelback since I live in cali and they are in arizona so no tax for my purchases.

 

I would rather not save a few $$$ just to not have the hassle if something is picked wrong or I find I don`t need it.

Just walk in and get my account credited and be done.

To each there own thing it works for me at least till now.

 

I wish my local dealer was that accommodating instead of charging me above Toyota's MSRP for parts. So, with the online EPCs I've learned to be my own parts counter guy and buy online.

 

yeahhh not sure about your local dealership but every local dealership i've ever gone to for parts (regardless of auto maker) charges an outrageous amount for OEM parts. much much cheaper online for the same OEM part. Diagrams to determine the exact parts needed are readily available on the www as well.

Then paying statements on time and doing over a $1000.00 in parts some months Must help as well.

The lack of hassle is worth it if I pay more then buying on line.To tell the truth unless it is for someone else I don`t even ask the price.

It is nice to call up and say I need ball joints top and bottom inner and outer tie rods new sleeves only to hear bought another one again . Give them a P.O. Number.

While this is nice for guys like you and me that have either nice dealers or parts guys you have made a good reputation with such as myself.

The vast majority of guys don't have this option and buying online is truly the far cheaper option.

 

I get all mine from Beno/Onur over on ih8mud. There is also cdan. Both give discounts from their parts counters to mud members.

 

I'll try this. Are there any yotatech vendors who will do the same as the ih8mud guys?

I'm going with the Toyota OEM parts then, the originals lasted over 160k.

Won't be buying from the local dealer. I've never had a problem ordering parts online, always receive what I ordered.

I've spent hours on all the different sites pricing these parts and on average there's only a few dollars difference here and there. It looks like they are all pulling and displaying inventory from the same database.

I could not imagine installing generic junk front end parts! Talk about rolling the dice!!

I searched lower BJ's for my 99 and the online prices were 25.00 more per BJ. than on camelback toyota online . Shipped free over 150.00 and they show the parts diagram and part numbers.
Dallas toyota parts has the same search engine and prices.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Toyota use 555's as their factory LBJ's? Moog uses 555 from what I know. Maybe 555 has some different grades of product, I guess, but the Moog joints are ~$40 each, while the Toyota joints are ~$75+ each.
Maybe I'm just cheap, but double the money for a presumably comparable part seems like paranoia.

 

Well Look at the above picture of what Moog did for me. Along with all the other similar stories.

This is one case where I say it really is worth the extra to get OEM. Things that are not a matter of life and death, sure, cheap out.

 

I hear what you're saying, and I've seen instances of Moog failures, but it doesn't answer the question. Isn't 555 the manufacturer Toyota uses for this part? And I suppose it's possible for them to do so, but is 555 really going to produce multiple grades of this product for various packaging purposes (Toyota>Moog=Raybestos)?


Do the Yota LBJ's *never* fail?

 

I have no idea who makes the Toyota balljopints. I just know that the OEM's lasted 140k miles no problem. The moog lasted less then 10k before failing.

Pretty cut and dried IMO.

 

Well, maybe I'll have to fork over the $200 and an hour or two to get this done then. I know I've got some Moog's on mine right now (about 15k on them) after my OEM's failed at 150k (luckily they showed warning signs first, so it wasn't catastrophic). My truck is virtually only used off road these days, so I'm sure my joints could use the boost in quality (assuming there is one).

 

I went with Camelback Toyota. Got upper and lower balljoints for both sides and new bolts shipped for $263. OEM parts.

 

Wise decision to go with Toyota OEM.
