Wink Save Gas? Idle cut Solenoid use with remote switch?

I suppose this would apply mostly to '84 and before for the 20 & 22R carb motor as fuel injection was offered in '85. Idle cut Solenoid use with remote switch? Seen this on a thread or two and they said can save a large percentage of fuel on the highways? I was thinking to try this but concerned about the fuel mixture being too lean perhaps and causing motor damage. If its ok on the flats would you have to switch it back on for hills or maybe certain speeds, what do you think if you're using this remote set up? Simple enough to splice in two wires and mount a switch under dash... Think this was brought up on a thread where posts were made of there mileage.

Note: I'm running a bit rich right now and don't know why, inside of tail pipe is very dark gray or black and think it should be med gray?

It will be a pain switching this on every time you are at idle. It will die otherwise. Fix your real problem with the carb and leave the solenoid alone.
