4th gen tires--what's biggest without lift?

Hey all,
Guy at work just bought an '04 4Runner, SR5, 2wd. Does anybody know what size tires he can fit without any lift? He would like to keep his stock rims and would probably get MTs. I ran a search and best I can figure is 265-70-17. Is there anything bigger that would fit, or is that it? (not really worried about the spare tire clearance at this point).

Thanks all!
Have fun.

Yeah I think that's it. That's what I have.

I had the same question and I think all the guys on the board agreed that 265/70-17 is it.

2004 SR5 stock rims

Stock rims on a 2004 SR5 are 16". The OEM tire is 265/70-16. Moving to 265/75-16 would upsize the tire diameter by 1". Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos are available in this size.

I have a similar question. I have a Limited (17" wheels) and want to know how big I can go, with a lift, and not have to cut fenders/mudflaps?

For what it's worth, I ran 2 different sizes of tires under my 4th gen Runner before the lift and the 315's. The first were 265/70R17's, and the second set were 285/65R17's. Neither one rubber at all. Here are the comparison specs on the two:

285/65R17's 31.5"x11.2"
265/70R17's 31.6"x10.4"

Overall diameter is essentially the same, and the 285's looked much better due to the fact that they were an inch wider. Either tire would work just fine though. If you can find a 15" rim to fit over the disc and caliber, you could run a 32x11.5" with very minimal rubbing. Good luck, hope this helps.

Actually, come to think of it, my 285's are just sitting in the garage...they have less than 1000 miles on them, so if anyone wants them, just let me know...I am more than willing to swing a deal.

Thanks a bunch you all! I think it turns out he has 16 inch rims. So, I guess 265/75R16 are the biggest. I'll let him know about the 32 inch tires too. Sounds sweet to me!

Again, thanks bunches.
Have fun all.
