bolt one of those bars to your frame on the passenger side at a 90 degree angle, it should stick out about 2 feet. then drive down random residential streets playing trash can derby with your new extention!!!

The round will be the outer rail and the square will go under the pinch weld.

Don't know when I will finish this project but they will be bolt on for sure.

Talking Prices on steel and stainless

In the past 3 weeks carbon steel has gone up from $0.38 a pound to almost $0.52 a pound and stainless has gone from about $1.80 a pound to almost $2.15 a pound. It has become a sellers market...and you thought the steel economy was suffering!

My bet is on SLIDERS! I'd say you spent about $100 on materials if you bought carbon steel tubing to build sliders...

I am going to give welding a try. Got a friend with a shop and
he is going to let me use his equipment.

I have not welded in several years so it will be like starting as a
newb.

I may have to have someone bend the round stock for me.

I just buy a arc welder few weeks ago(230v 60-230 amp) 200$ CAN with 25' wires,helmet,some rods.lightly used.Anyway i think i do a great deal.

And i grab approx 150' of 3/4 square tubing for free at the plant(olds useless rackings).

I have almost finish my roof rack with tire mount.

welder is surely a good investement.

free metal are cool too.

enjoy your welding !!

I know Salida is kinda small, but a muffler shop or body shop should be able to do the bending for you. Call your friends, ask for favors. I'm sure someon knows someone who could do it for you.

It's gonna be SLIDERS!!!!

I am still thinking if I want to go with bolt on or weld on.

Right now I am leaning to bolt on. I thinking of making a
saddle that will go up both sides of the frame and then put
sleeves through the middle of the frame and bolt all the way
through the frame.

However, with the fuel tank so close on the drivers side I may
have to go to self tapping bolts in that one place.

I will let everyone know how they turn out.

when I do mine I am gonna try to make the rails that go to the frame have a sleeve that fits inside of them snugly, might have to use the lath and turn em down a bit so that they will since I.D. arent guaranteed when you buy steel pipe. but then weld the base plates to the sleeves, slip em in the rails and hold it where it goes, weld on the plates/sleeves and then drill a coupole holes in each rail through it and the sleeve and get some strong bolts and kep them o like that, then it is welded to the frame for a better connection but I can still remove them if I want to. or maybe just put a sleve through the frame everywhere but at the gas tank location where you cant and only do the sleeved inner raisl right there, cuz I know I dont wanna just use self tapping blots wiht no nut on the back.
