83' Pickup Fuel Tank Replacement
Hey guys,
New to the forum and new to Yotas as well. Glad to be here. Three weeks ago I bought a 83' Pickup with a 22r that is basically bone stock and in good shape. I am the third owner of the truck as far as I know. The first two weeks of ownership consisted of doing a clutch/throwout bearing/pilot bearing/general tuneup job as well as fabbing exhaust consisting of a tube header and a 2.5" Magnaflow muffler. Truck ran great so I got it tagged up and drove it for a few days. I was helping some friends moving two days ago when I stepped out of my truck and smelled gas. A lot of gas. And it wasn't from me either. I grabbed a flashlight and looked under the truck and the gas tank was pissing gas through the skid plate like it had seen a ghost. Long story short, I pulled the tank and its in bad shape on the bottom anyway. A few pinholes and a couple maybe 1/16th of an inch wide. Does anybody know where I can get another tank? If not should I weld some new sheet metal on the bottom of this sucker? Does anybody know of a good aftermarket tank that would be easy to mount? Sorry for the novel!

new tanks are no longer available for this gen . I have been in touch with the Canadian aftermarket manufacture for these , Specture , and they tell me if I order enough of them they will build them for me ...
so far I have not had enough interest for me to order 20 tanks

Thanks for the input guys, its appreciated. So far my attempts to source another tank have been a dead end. Still looking though. Will maybe end up braizing this tank myself and then coating it inside and out with POR 15. If the braizing doesn't stand a little pressure test it will probably get a custom tank built by a friend. Thanks again! If anybody finds a tank I could purchase and have shipped to OR let me know!

Red Kote is a product that will seal up pin holes in tanks. Follow the directions on the can as I think it takes 2 or 3 coats to seal it. I would also give the tank a good cleaning.

Always good advice if you have never done it before. I added welded my first tank on a civil in high school. Washed it 6X. Still enough fumes inside for it to launch it off the welding bench. Looked like a football.
I added another fuel gage to my 82 tank about 15 yrs later. Filled it 98% full of water, no issues but that came with experience.
