Soon to have '85 toyota pickup ext cab

Alright so I found an '85 Toyota Pickup 4x4 that has everything I want. Extended cab, 5-speed, 22re, all around pretty dang clean as well. I plan on pickin it up later today. Now it has 280K on the odo and the owner says its the original engine, he recently did a new timing chain and head gasket according to him, for preventitive maintenance. Now is 280k on a 22re suspicious or really bad, even well cared for? He's askin $3k for it so I can't let this one get away, he's running 5.29s front and rear along with 33's which sounds really stupid but thats what he claims it has. I figure it can't cost too much to throw in a new motor anyways, or 3rz swap it later on down the road. I plan on running atleast 37s and being a capable crawler and winter DD if need be. He's got a few extra things in it like a nice truck box, CB and antennae all set up and built into the dash, sunroof, and sound system.

With that many miles it's just not a concern for the engine, it's every moving part on the truck that wears out

Front and rear axles have had all the seals and bearings serviced when the gears were installed. Tranny not a big deal, cheap and easy to find. Will get twin cased, will have rebuilt driveshafts or atleast the front. Most likely new springs, hi-steer, longfields and chromolies. Can't imagine theres much left that I wont touch sometime soon. The motor is my main concern atleast lol.

So i bought the truck on sunday. $3k, 219k on the odometer and a motor from an '89 apparently. Brand new headers, and it just passed DEQ here and is all set to go. Only negative, a rebuilt title due to an accident in early 2000. Otherwise a 4.5" lift thats 6 years old or more on crappy 33's, open diffs and stock everything else. Power windows, 5speed, SR5 interior, Moon roof. Some rust in the bed but its all surface stuff. Pretty dang nice in my opinion, once the cherokee is sold this bad girl is getting a lot of upgrades.

Well I'm gonna revive this thread of mine for a couple of quick questions.

How much lift do you guys think is on this truck? It's still on those bald 33/12.50s too. The guy said it was a 4.5" lift but that is not possible, since next to my buddies stock '86 (running 35s) were basically the same height from what I can tell. The shackles say Downey on em but nothin on the springs besides a + and - on each side of em. I'm only curious because I have a fully built toyota front axle and ifs rear axle ready to go in with hi-steer and an ifs box, and I've heard you need atleast 3"s of lift. I'm trying to get RUF springs and rangers or 63s for the rear. But I'd like to get em in now instead of trying to find these springs.

Another question, I found another '85 in a junkyard and took the rear springs. Truck looked stock, the springs measured out right but there was only 2 springs and then the big short fat one on the bottom. Are these correct rear springs? I'm not 100% sure if it was a 4wd truck or 2wd, I never read that there was a difference between em so I never even checked.

Thanks for any help

When I had my 85 excab I had a 4" rancho lift that settled to about 3" of lift. 33's looked and cleared awesome. I could flex and not rub jus fine. Put my buddy's 35's on for a look and they "fit". Like a fat man in a little jacket. But they fit ish. So 3-4 inches would be all you need for 33's to work great.

Well i dont care too much about fitment, im just workin on gettin the axles and histeer in. I plan on 37s or 40s for tires. And doing alot of cutting. But from that it looks like i have about 3"s or so then so it might work, since i cant get ahold of the springs i need.
