Another cigarette outlet issue

Hey guys. Sorry if this has been gone over, I didnt find one specific to this issue really. The lighter won't work in my '98 4runner. I noticed an individual fixed the problem of the fusible link in the back of the unit by just removing the insulating washer. I thought id give it a shot. As soon as I plugged in my phone charger, it blew the ACC fuse. Tried a 20 and 30 just to see and it blew those also. Any ideas on this?

Well you just created a dead short that is why the fuses opened like they did

As far as I know the lighter has no fusible link nor is there one in the EWD

It sounds like the socket is corroded and needs to be cleaned you know you have battery voltage there.

There is a link on the back of the outlet. The two plates attached to said link are separated by an insulating washer.

Certainly not challenging your knowledge but I can assure you it's there, and it's very much stock. Perhaps not on all years as I can't speak for any other than my '98.

Well if you are correct then the EWD from Toyota Has a misprint .

The only circuit protection is the fuse.

Is this something that is part of the lighter and would be removed if the whole lighter assembly was replaced.

Then it would not be considered part of the wiring.

A picture would be a big help.

Some where there is a short .positive and negative are brought into contact when something is inserted in the socket.

If the lighter is unplugged does the fuse still open ?

It only happens when something is plugged into the socket??

I take it the phone charger works fine in other vehicles.

I can`t understand why no one else has chimed in.

Fusible link. Sorry it took so long. I work 12-hour shifts.
