93 XtraCab - 22RE efi - rpm drop in gear

Hello,
I hesitated making this post or referring to it as a dreaded 'idle' issue but I'm stumped. I've read hundreds of the posts on idle issues, done most every check and I'm not sure how to proceed. Here's the current situation:

Suspect: 93 XtraCab pickup, Automatic, 22RE, efi

Symptoms: RPM drops below 750-800 range whenever put into gear (R/D/2/1)

I have currently tested the RPM drop by getting the engine up to temp. Everything runs fine during this process. Cold start is good, RPMs progressively go down as warm coolant starts to flow through idle control valve. No surging (never had this symptom). Engine gets to temp and I can set it at 750rpm with idle set screw. All is fine. I've checked the throttle opener settings and adjusted according to the service manual. I've taken the throttle body off and done a complete cleaning of all parts including new O-ring in the body. Checked and cleaned the EGR vacuum modulator. Checked for vacuum leaks from every angle.

During my test I put on the emergency brake and shifted from Park or Neutral into gear to test the drop. I did this so I could make sure applying the brakes didn't affect the RPM drop. Even applying the brakes, I saw no RPM drop so I don't suspect a brake vacuum issue. It just seems that putting the engine under load (gear) is when the RPMs go down. I've had to set the idle at Park, while warm, in the 1200 range to get the engine to stay above 700 while in gear. If I keep the RPM at 750-800 in Park I'll eventually kill the engine while making a corner or sitting at a light.

So, what am I missing about putting the vehicle into gear that causes the RPM drop? I'm assuming that is everything is working right, and I set the idle RPM at 750 in Park, I should see it stay at 750 when in gear and not moving. Correct?

Sorry if this is really another idle issue thread but I'm stumped on what I should check next. Any direction is appreciated!
Thanks,
RH

RH,
I have a 1987 with the same problem for years and can't get an answer. Did you ever find an answer to your problem. Please advise if you resolved you issue.
Thanks John
