First Gen Supercharger Removal/uninstall questions
New guy to the forum here and trying not to be too much of a nob.
I recently picked up a 1999 3.4L V6 Tacoma with a supercharger on it and i'm looking to remove it.
Before this truck i had a 1999 2.7L 4 banger, and before that a 1989 2.4L turbo Diesel Hilux Surf (4runner)...so i'm no foreigner to slow moving rigs. I'm more interested in engine longevity than rallying off the line, and hence the removal..
I'm in a bit of a unique situation and have some questions. I just moved up to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (middle of ˟˟˟˟ing no where) and NO ONE up here has seen, let alone, worked on a S/C, so i'm not getting much help from dealerships - in fact the toyota dealership in town told me they couldn't do the work.
I'm comfortable around a wrench, and have done small to medium sized jobs on my old rigs, i've read through the install manual and it seems like a reasonable project to take on myself. There are no write-ups for the uninstall anywhere that i've found so i thought i would write it up when i'm done.
I'm heading to Arizona next week for a work trip and will have the opportunity to buy the stock parts i need and bring it back to Canada with me, so i'm trying to make a detailed list of what i need to get so there are no surprises down the road.
My questions:
1. Is the front plastic cover that has been cut to fit around the nose-cone reusable or should i order a new one?
2. Can i leave the FMU unit with the fuel pressure regulator installed in it AS IS (that is, mounted to the firewall), or do i need to remove the FMU unit, pull the regulator out of it and remount the regulator back on the fuel rail?
3. Gaskets? Can i reuse the intake gasket? I assume if i get an upper and lower IM as 1 piece the gasket between the two would be fine? Throttle body gasket?
4. Vacuum hose routing. I was wondering if someone with a stock setup could take a few pictures of their rig so i have a good reference to work from - FDM/Haynes schematics dont always make it clear
5. Hardware...So far it seems stock intake hardware is pretty much it...am i missing anything here?
Any other words of advice would be great.
I'll be selling the S/C once its all done. This is what i know about it.
I purchased the truck as the 3rd owner with 165K on it. The 2nd owner had it for 3 weeks and didn't like it (old guy, thought it was too small inside). His son sold it to me and told me the truck had been owned by a retired couple in southern UT that had towed it around the country behind their RV - so half the odometer miles are actually just tow miles. I dont know when the unit was installed or how well it was taken care of. I have partial service records and they're pretty thorough, all reg maintenance and all done at a dealership so i get the sense i was pretty babied, all details end there though. I dont know how long the S/C has been on, how often the nose-cone oil was changed, etc. I also dont have any experience with these units or anyone else's to compare it to. As far as i can tell everything is running fine. I replaced the bearing in the the tension pulley and while the belt was off i hand-spun the nose-cone pulley and it felt fine...smooth with no roughness or play.
thanks everyone, i appreciate the help!
I've attached a few pictures.

Honestly you won't be changing the engine lifespan much by removing it. PLENTY of very high mileage 5vz's with factory superchargers. 5vz is one hard engine to kill.
1: yes it can be reused
2: The FMU should be removed as it will cause you to run richer and get worse milage but you could disconnect the vacuum line to it and get the same basic results if you want.
3: as long as you are careful when you remove them and they look good I have reused them a few times.
4: You should be able to find the factory vacuum hose diagram with some searching. Sometimes it is on a sticker under the hood.
5: Hardware is pretty much the stuff that goes with the stock intake manifold.
