A340H without 3vze ECU - will it work?

Hi everyone, now that i have my OM616 sitting nicely in my 88' 4runner with toy alternator and starter, i want to clean that wiring mess that 3vze left behind.
I have been reading a lot about manual switching on A340 transmission but what i would like to try before that is to drive my A340H with ECT setup stock. I have line pressure cable from throttle body. Will it work without TPS feed? Has anyone done anything similar to this, i just want so simplify my wiring as much as i can to get it closer to "failproof" Also it would be nice to bypass the coolant and trans fluid temp sensors.

I've never tried it, but it certainly should not work. http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...34electron.pdf

The line pressure cable from the throttle body only controls line pressure: how "hard" the transmission shifts. Unlike an old-style transmission, it has nothing to do with the shift points. Those are provided by the ECU (through the four solenoids) relying on engine speed (from the transmission) and throttle position (from the TPS)

It can, I have looked over the schematic diagrams but its a lot of wiring and switch setup.
You wont need the kickdown at all since you will have to do all your shifting manualy.
You have to create switching hand device that you will be comfortable with.
Once that is done you can create a hardline harness from the old harness to your switches (0,1,2,3 and 4) and you will also want another switch for torque lock.
(A manual torquelock will be cool)
The transfercase harness is simple with just a B+ source you can throw the 4X4 lever and have it turn on 4th gear solenoid and this will run the transfercase.

I suggest look for a A340F and change bellhousing and pump and avoid the hydraulic transfercase all together.

You are also going to have to look for a aftermarket torqueconverter as the stock stall speed is way to high for a diesel engine unless you ride the torque lock all the time.

you need the tps. you could rig a tps up and have it shift just fine. if i am not correct someone please fix what i am saying but i think the tps is the only signal from your old motor that you need. possibly a temp sensor somewhere. when my tps went out i could shift manually. 1 then 2 then d then i would hit the button for od. it worked fine but did get old. after changing my tps i wondered why i waited so long. rig up the tps and youll be fine or use your shifter. GOOD LUCK!!

i was thinking about that too, but considering my torque converter and shift schedule were premade for 3vze, it is just a waste of time to wire up ECT.

The TPS tells the ECU wether its accelerating or decal, Without the ECU the trans has no control, Tried using a manual ECU on my auto before the conversion to test the auto ECU engine side.
Even in non-ECT its still controlled by the ECT because shifting the Auto went 1st and as soon as I switch to second it would jump to 3rd and D was just 3rd.
ECT also controls OD, 4WD and TC lock.
