Not sure I'm understanding that it works but won't come on? And sure you can put a switch to anything but why wouldn't you fix the problem so you don't have a switch to mess with.
But are you saying you have verified with another power source to the pump that it kicks on and will not with the factory wiring??

When I was sorting out my pump issues, I ran a switch in-line to the pump & a jumper wire to the Battery.. if I recall, it was the blue wire in the wireing located under the passenger seat. once my pump tested fine I traced out the rest and found the break in the circut and did away with the by-pass.
