O/D Light Flashing with MANUAL Trans and Door Buzzer?

Hey folks, fresh meat here. First Toyota, first post. I picked up a '90 4Runner last week, 3.slow swapped from an automatic trans to a manual (since manual yotas are worth their weight in gold, apparently, I went with a Frankenyota). Everything works great, drives and looks about as well as can be expected with 23 years of abuse and neglect, etc. Curious black stains in the cargo area and white stains in the back seat. (Never fear, the front is much less segregated, with a healthy blend of all stain-ethnicities).

However, since I'm now decidedly lacking in the 'Overdrive' department, I'd like to know how to disable the 'O/D OFF' light that keeps flashing at me. I dug around a bit, but all the threads I've found are for (you guessed it!) automatic transmissions; you know, the ones with Overdrive. So is there a way I can disable the little flashing light? Perhaps without rooting around inside the dash and popping out a bulb/LED/miniature lighthouse/midget with a flashlight?

I'm simply concerned that it might lead to other issues if I just snip a wire, because I really have no idea what all those wirey-doodads do, and with my luck the one that makes the 'Warp Speed OFF' light, or whatever it is, will also control the vehicle's anti-self-destruct mechanism.

Any input would be greatly appreciated; thanks in advance folks!

P.S. - I also have a very irritating door alarm or somesuch (it's the same buzzer [relay?] as the seatbelt alarm, I think) that goes off about 4/5 times the driver door is opened. It goes off regardless of seatbelt attachment status, key insertion status, ignition engagement status (Save The Date cards coming soon!), running, not running, full moon, new moon. Not the foggiest idea what the secret is to this thing. Is it normal? It does shut off (about 4/5ths of the time) when I shut the door, other times the seatbelt light comes on for a few seconds then shuts off with the alarm about 10 seconds after the door closes. And it doesn't always come on... When I was looking to buy the thing, no alarm. I open the door after purchasing it (after a couple test drives), and bam, buzzer. A few other times, it's just forgotten to come on. Perhaps it's Union and I opted to operate the door during negotiated breaks?

P.P.S. - I blame the ghost in the electrical system. Anyone know if the Ghostbusters are still at 555-2368, and what their rates for Automotive Exorcisms are?

P.P.P.S. - How many stupid jokes does it take to get banned? I've got to be getting close.

You do have Overdrive. It's just now called 5th gear. Have you found a wiring diagram and traced the light to the switch? Have you tried jumper-ing the switch (if switch is gone)? I would venture to guess there is a flasher/relay for it since it does flash on/off.

Or tracing the bulb circuit and applying 10X the voltage and blowing the bulb? No midgets with mini-Maglites in the dash. Try to make it low amps, so as to reduce risk of burning your discriminate Toy to the ground. (I noticed your truck puts lighter stains ahead of these so-called darker stains. "They just don't know each other...")

I don't know the rest yet, I got distracted, so now I have to go eat and pack up.

But I loved this post. Excellent to have humor once again!

Or is this a trap/joke to lure US in and we will be banned now? (StetsonMD, Thatguy8675309, be careful.....)

Hey rokblok, I'm sad to say that I haven't chased down the problem yet. I'm hoping to tackle it next weekend. I'll do as advised though, and see if I can't figure it out. I really haven't done as much research on the wiring as I need to. Thanks for the reply though, and I'm glad you enjoyed it, lol.

If this was a auto to manual conversion and still using the Auto ECU the links were not tied off correctly and the ECU is detecting a defect.
Pull the code and you should be able to track it down.
Manual ECU does not have the connection to turn the OD light on.
