96 3.4 4x4 won't start, battery starter OK

96 3.4 ext. cab with 230,000 miles, 3.4 L. Drove it downtown and back days ago, and 2 hours later, wouldn't start (no noise from the starter). Took battery and starter to auto store. Battery recharged and good. Starter was tested = good. Put both back in, still won't start (no noise from the starter). So replaced the starter relay. Still won't start (no noise from the starter). Checked the 2 fusable links and they look fine. What could this be? Thanks

other details

Ignition switch rebuilt about a year ago. Does not seem to be the problem. (Dash lights etc. behave as normal) Automatic and no problems with shifter. Tried starting in Park and N. Same result.

Do you have a Multimeter ?/

Check voltage from positive battery terminal to engine block.

Auto or manual check your safety switches ??

Battery terminals clean and tight not cracked

Did the wire fall off the starter solenoid or did you not get it on correct when you had the starter out

One has to start some place and check one step at a time

Shoot some video of yer situation and post it.

Who rebuilt the ignition switch? Why did it need to be rebuilt?

Did you trace fer power at the neutral safety switch?

Check to see if you're getting 12 to the starter trigger/signal wire. *have someone turn key while you have wire and a ground probed*

If no power then see if your neutral safety switch is faulty, it won't kick your starter relay *ground signal I think*

There are two big fuses 100amp and 40 amp that send power to starter relay for the starter

You should also get power to st2 of the ignition switch that goes to the starter relay via a black wire.

Good luck

Thanks for the help!

Turned out to be the starter. Got voltage at starter, took it in (it had been tested as "good" days earlier) and they replaced for free under warranty. Total cost, 27 bucks for the relay that I didn't need. I will never again believe a "starter test" 100%.
