Im looking to swap the current engine of this car to a 22RE and install some turbo into it. What exactly would I need and what would it run me for a decent engine and tranny?

 

If you're looking for more power than a NA 22RE, a 3RZ-FE will be a cheaper option than a turbo. Perhaps a 4AGZE?

Nothing wrong with making your own manifold, I did. I used flat 14Ga plate layed out tge design that would fit the allotted space and then unfolded tge bends onto a flat sheet tgat I had water-jet cut. It cost me $109 for materials cut to my spec, including the flanges. The thingvassembled in an afternoon with torch to heat and bend plates, a vice, vis grips, clamps and of course a MIG welder. You can see pics in my gallery, link at the bottom of this post.

The factory ECU's are setup for a particular set of engine parameters. You are heading off the ranch on this project. I would reccomend Megasquirt or dome other programmable system. The beauty of MS, is the DIYPNP will plug into a factory harness, and you can use as many of the factory parts as you want to set this up fairly easilly.

Even with forced induction the 22re doesn't make that much power. Its a cost to performance ratio. There are better performing engines out there for less money. If you're going to purchase the complete package, its not really a cost effective choice. If he already had a 22re in there, it would be much more viable.

Certainly, I think a 22re is a pretty decent choice if an NA one is going to satisfy you, but if you want more power than that. A turbo is going to cost you more than a 2RZ or 3RZ and will net you basically the same performance.

 

Like vital suggested, search craigslist for a wrecked taco and get a complete donor. That'll cost you less in the long run than sourcing all the parts.
