check out my 22re head.. something wrong yo!!! "Pic Added"
This is not normal for me so I will let you be the judge. I had my brother dropped off my head to Ron Machine Shop in Fresno, Ca and about 2 hrs later this is how it looked. Was to be Pressure and resurface. My engine had about 80k original miles and head gasket was change due to a possible water leak from headers, drinking coolant, and slight milky oil cap..

I tried to post them also..weird. Use photobucket, seems a lot easier to use. But below is a link to them

ok...you got it, removed the pics from here.
Looks like a heck of a lot of pitting!

Run it, if your not resurfacing block or timing cover and not digging into to bearings after contaminated oil. Then your on burrowed time and probably have serious engine issues in the future. Run it till she dies then replace.

Don't run it.
Waste of money.
I did a headgasket job on my 22re two years ago. The head surface looked like that. Rough holes for the water jacket. They will wrinkle the head gasket and you'll be replacing it once again in 15-25k km (km not miles).
Get a different head. Unless you like changing head gaskets and tossing money away.
The head's mating surface should just about be a mirror. If it looks like someone took sandpaper/grinder to it, I would take it back. There are two schools of thought on this, rough (and use sealing compound) or mirror-like (just gasket). On the 22re head, smoother and more mirror-like, the better.
What's the condition on the cylinder walls? Can you catch a fingernail on the inside where the rings get to their highest point?
No catching at all, just smooth, you're all clear.
Doesn't catch but you can feel the ridge, you'll be good for another couple years.
Catches your fingernail, you're probably blowing blue smoke and she won't last much longer.

As for the cylinder walls, its smooth as baby bottom. Its clean and seems to be fine.
This motor had about 80k original miles, and when all this occur, it was still running like a champ. It would drink 1 pint of coolant every 200 miles or so.. and random coolant/water would drip from the header flanges (head flanges leak). Enough liquid to say that its not condensation. But will dissappear once the engine warmed up. Under the oil cap there were small amount of milky look oil trapped under there. Which led me to change my HG. It after all knowing all this ran like champed and pull like a champ. there were no other major symptoms. Over heated occur 2-3 times. But when the engine is turn off and coolant added it can be driven for hours....
As for the engine and long term, Im forecasting and hoping another 6-12 months. As I have plans for a 1uz auto adapted to my current dual cases..
Here's a previous picture:

Nice truck! How many miles you plan on putting on it within that 12 months? Hopefully you can get through that one year period if you choose to assemble as is.
Can I have your 22re after your done with it?
doesn't hurt to ask!
I'll pick up!

"It passed the pressure test" is about the best recommendation you're going to get. Like someone else said I probably wouldn't run that head and just have it replaced. But that's just an opinion and personal preference.
If it passed the tests it's good to go.
