I was just noticing how expensive the Toyota factory service manuals are these days. And so I thought about alldata.diy.com. They are a source of online service manuals. If someone reading this has used both I'd like to hear how you think they compare. I find the Toyota EWD (electrical wiring diagram) manual really useful. Does Alldata have comparable wiring diagrams?

 

i have alldatapro and mitchell, and can say mitchell wiring diagram are a lot easier to read in my opinion.

 

Mitchel has better diagrams, but nothing really beats the factory ones. I have the fsm for my generation of pickup and it blows the pants off of mitchell and all data.

 

It took me a couple of minutes but I was able to find Mitchell1-DIY. Is that where you find the good info? The subscription prices, at $25/yr, per vehicle, look reasonable.

I might have a job where I need both 4runner and Tacoma manuals and wiring info for late '99 models and I sure don't want to have to buy $500 or more, worth of paperback FSMs.

 

Yes, I own some Toyota FSMs and Electrical Wiring Diagram manuals and I have found them to be an excellent resource.

Right now I'm working with a late 1999 3.4 V6 (5VZFE) engine from an automatic 4runner and trying to see if I can swap it into an '89 4runner. I'd like to look at electrical details for automatic and manual 1999 and 2000 4runners and Tacomas.

Once I figure out what I really need I wouldn't be without the factory books.

You can download all the EWD (Electronic Wiring Diagrams), Repair Manuals, Service Bulletins and a few other things that Toyota provides for their dealerships' service departments.

Go through and watch a couple of the tutorial videos, then when you have a couple of hours free for 2 consecutive nights, sit down (with a beverage of your choice) and start downloading all the relevant repair manuals and EWDs for the 2000 4Runner (or Tacoma, or both).

Thanks for the tip. I looked at the TIS website briefly before and didn't understand what they are offering. Now I get it. Too bad though that their system only works with PCs running Windows, which leaves me out.

I've got all the Toyota FSMs for my '89 already though.
