Hasn't blown yet I just bought it and one of the cylinders wasn't firing. I changed the plugs and it seems to be running better I'm no expert .

Well there you go then. Instead of a $1200 engine, you can just send me $50 if it make you feel better...lol

First basic test of an engines health is a compression test.
Do a search on how to do it, and go get/borrow a compression tester.

If you plan on doing a motor swap you have a choice of a couple motor options. My favorite lately is a TDI engine from a 1997-2006 Jetta or Golf. Great MPG and about double the HP and torque from the 4 cylinder. I am gonna start building these in my spare time.

From the sounds of it I would suggest getting a Factory Service manual or a Haynes Repair manual and follow the instructions.

Regarding the motor... there is a place to get a slightly modified version of the 22re
http://www.lceperformance.com/22RE-E...-p/1002003.htm

It would be way better getting their gear instead of spending 3k on a short block from a standard rebuild shop. Just another thought that I Forgot about last time. In the end i would still do the TDI swap personally.. but thats just me
