I need your help guys I don't know if this is normal or if it broken. A little background it's a 1985 reg cab base model 22R 5 spd with 209xxx. It's the ugly off white color and it has a red topper ( for now).

Anyway so I shift it and it shifts fine between 1 and 2, but when I go to shift to 3rd it stays in 2nd and the shifter just can move absolutely anywhere it wants, but this is only due to the small amount of vertical pressure I put on it shifting to third. Basically why is it that my shifter can be lifted upwards and disengaged so to say. How do I fix this? First post

 

I would check the shifter seat and ball. They're pretty common about wearing out. Not saying that's the issue, but its a relatively easy, cheap fix, and worth a look. A little searching will tell you all you need to know...
