mystery compartment in rear cargo area

I have a 96 nearly-base 4runner e.g., manual windows, gray bumpers.
Opened the driver's side rear cargo panel and found an odd compartment.
Don't seem to be any hoses or wires or anything else going into it.
See pics
Anyone know what this is?
Just curious
Thanks!

It would be pretty weird for someone to hide a 'stache in there. I mean, unless they were a master of disguise or something.

That's the vent, out of which air flows from the cabin. It's a safety feature. There is always air flowing through the cabin front to back, even if the fan is off.

Exhauster. it lets air out of the vehicle so your ears don't pop from air pressure in the cabin when you close the doors. Depressurizes the interior, you could have windows blow out too if you didn't have a vent like that.

Also lowers the uh...atmospheric pressure... when that delicious breakfast burrito from Burrito Amigo's revisits.... and there's no time to get a window open in advance...

Are we looking at different things in the pic? How about some info instead of a smiley face.

Do you know how much pressure it would take to break the windows?
