1983 22R timing Chain question

Hey guys. Not sure if im in the right place to ask this question but I recently put a new head gasket in my 83 22r motor. I have the head back on and torqued down. However I cant get the timing chain gear on. Is there a way that I can get it on without taking my water pump, pulleys and all that off?

yeah had some trouble. I have a duel timing chain so the bar was real hard to get in there. Then a friend told me to move the crank back and fourth. It went right on. Duh me

That exact thing just happened to me. I had my cylinder head surfaced by a shady machinist. He used a belt sander and the result was unusable. I took it to a better machine shop and the result is perfect. I got to do the head gasket job 2x but I have a solved problem now! It only cost me a new head gasket / head bolts and the cost of quality machining. Oh yea, and a weekend to disassemble / reassemble.

yeah. Howeverrrr I purchased a 22r head about 2 months ago. I got it shipped here opened it up, and put it on. I then realized that my pistons were hitting my head. Looked it up on this amazing website. And BAM! i figured out i have an older 22r motor in it, and the new head had pear shaped ports. The truck is an 87, so somewhere along the lines it was swapped. So now i think ill just find a 85 or newer block and put it in.
