Just got a 95 T100 4x4 auto trans yesterday.

Just ordered out a owners manual so I don't have access to specs for transmission fluid type and amount.

Transfer case capacity and fluid type and rear differential GL type etc.

Any Intel or input appreciated.

Also seller claims timing belt was changed but I'm having my doubts it ever happened. He said all his records have been packed up for the move but said it was done at Downtown Toyota in Spokane....but there is no sticker under the hood....?

Auto trans fluid will say on the dipstick. 90% sure it's dexron 3 but my little brother 98_3RZ is sitting next to me sayin Toyota type T-IV. Check the dipstick for sure though.

Gear oil should be 75w-90 for the front differential and the transfer case. Rear is 80w-90. All should be GL-5 rated.

As for the timing belt, not too hard to pull the cover and see...

If any work was done at a dealership, it should be logged and you can find out here. Yes, you'll have to sign up and put yer info in...

I just pulled the service history via the VIN# and the seller lied to me.

If the compression check of the used vehicle inspection had not shown good for 100k miles, this rig has 206,000, I would of passed up on the purchase.

All the past owner did on this T100 is change the engine oil, drive it out in the woods for hunting, put gas in it and put fresh tires on it and new battery before selling it.

I paid $4,400 fwiw.

Going through all fluids now and finding more missing stuff. Front skid plate completely gone. Previous owner is proving to be a lesson in perpetual forgiveness.

3.4 T100 Owners....?

Are there any problem areas to look for?

When you pulled the service history, did it say the relay rod recall had been done?

Other than that, mine has been a fairly stout truck. Check the wheel bearings regularly, look for common leaks like valve covers. Steering and front suspension are identical to a 86-95 ifs so check your idler arm and pitman to make sure their tight. I've personally lost an axle bearing and rear axle seals, and I've seen it on tacomas/tundras/4runners with the 8.4 rear axle. If their not leaking or making noise, no issue then. Other than that just keep your eyes open.

Yes the relay rod was done at the Toyota shop in 2006.

Nov 2008: A complete buyers inspection, Alignment $82.00, L. S. TIE-ROD ASSY $215.26/STG IDLER A, COMPLETE TUNE-UP $220.10

Never had to fiddle with my 91 4runner so I'm not sure what all that is. Assuming it is all front end IFS goodies.

This is my take on it thus far. For the $4,400 I think I did okay despite all the little issues I'm having to chase down. Body is decent for the most part drivers side has some damage from a small tree hit from a slide off a road during a hunting trip.

MPG empty driving conservative with low speed highway is only 15 MPG or so. 12 when pulling my enclosed trailer. When loaded down city driving I expect it to drop to 10.

Extra power and torque is notable compared to my 91 4runner with 3.0 and auto.

Shifting into park is iffy at times and it actually rolled back on me on an incline just after shutdown in "P".

Tranny fluid is the nastiest I have ever seen upon draining. Basically motor oil black. Dropped the fluid again after 120 miles still dark and nasty. Will keep this up every 100-200 miles till it drains normal.

Tranny does shift normal Over drive lockup occurs 52-56 mph when warmed up. Vastly more tow capable for business use pulling my 6x12 enclosed trailer. Better brakes for stopping trailer over my 85extra cab and 91 runner.

Is it an extended cab t100? Always wondered how one would do with any kind of towing. On the extended cabs the rear axle is almost under the cab leaving 17' of the bed sticking out their past the axle. Im exaggeration abviously but its pretty noticeable that the axle is no where near centered. Always bugged me about those t100's.

Great point and this concerned me as well. I also never cared for the over hang. That configuration also is carried over to some of the early Tundra's.

I bought it because I wanted a decent reliable work truck that wasn't going to nickel and dime me like a domestic would or could. 1995 was the last year built in Japan and first year for 3.4. Most T100 for sale are earlier 3.0 or just flat out very beat up in my area.

Directly comparing it to my stock 91 V6 4 runner and my stock 85 extra cab 22r it is vastly more tow capable...plus better brakes.

Then again my 6x12 enclosed rarely ever gets above 2400

I think it is an iffy tow rig past 3000 and would need trailer brakes.

Ya. I pull my camping trailer with my 3.4 tacoma. Its 3500 loaded. But it has trailer brakes.
If the over hang was ever a prob, you could flat bed it and move the axle back. It would just be hanger relocation and a new drive shaft. Though youd probably have to make a custom front spring mount. Thats if it bugs ya. If not leave er be.

T100 front tow hooks...?

I have a request for a T100 owners to take a picture of the OEM riders side tow hook and the driver side loop and post it here.

I’m assuming it will be identical to my 91 4 runners setup?

Skid plate and hooks are missing FWIW.

Yes, the hooks are identicle to the pickups. The skid plates are unfortunately a larger, plastic version of the pickups. Same mounting style, just spread wider and made of plastic.

Dealer parts replacement for the skid plate is over $200..... Is there a decent fairly durable non plastic one on the market?

Dealer parts on the hooks was in $25 range.

Just did some searches online. On my 1985 4x4 I have on old school original Pro-Zap winch bumper that is super durable. Hardly see them anymore....super rare.

Would like to have round tube steel bars that protect the front bumper from getting trashed.along with a skid plate combo....?

On you T? As far as I've found, there's only one company that makes a front bumper for our trucks. I'll post the link in just a little bit, or if you want, search T100 wincher bumper on google.
