Thermostat Info

Gday all,

Doing the water pump on my truck (RN85 22R) Pulled the tstat housing and tstat to flush the system. Well found that the gasket is pretty well shagged e.g bits of it missing, stretched, and the tstat itself appears to be stuck 2-3mm (5/64"-1/8") open.
It appears to be stock (Stamped "Kuzeh 93K 88°c") so I'm going to replace the gasket tomorrow with a Tridon TTG34 (assuming I can find one)
My big question is When cold, should the thermostat be completely closed? (I assume so) If so I'll replace it with a Tridon TT240-192 (Tridon is an NZ parts company, stocked in most parts stores hence my using their kit)
