Preparations needed to drive 4runner 400 miles.

Hi guys i am new to this forum and i was just wondering on what should be done to get a 1985 4runner to travel 400 miles. Okay so my uncle is giving his truck to us and he lives up in the bay area and I live in L.A. it has not been ran for 5 or more years and tips on making it home will be highly appreciated thanks in advance.

Check fluids oil, power steering, brake, clutch and coolant. If it runs good and drives good, just go it's a Toyota!

If it hasn't been run for at least 5 years, I'd be changing all the FLUIDS. If you have the time and it's running I would take an extra day or two and drive it around the area. Just my 2 cents worth, Good luck with the trip.

Fresh gas for sure!!

It would not hurt to change the oil as well as top off the coolant.

Why was it parked for that long??

I sometimes think the more you know about this stuff the more paranoid you get about things failing in route.

X2, tow it. If you're asking then you must suspect there's something wrong.

What's worse, no/expired tags or swapping on some current tags from a different vehicle? I think you'd be less likely to be pulled over with current tags but IF you get pulled over it might be a bigger penalty? Honestly, I don't know.

Check all the signal and brake lights if you're driving, another thing not to get pulled over for.

All fluids including gas. Take the air filter out and make sure no critters have gotten in there. I'd drive it around the block and make sure it gets up to temp without any hoses bursting, could be old and dry rotted. Same goes for the belts. In fact, better bring some hoses and belts with you in case they blow on the highway. Have you thought of avoiding the interstate altogether?
