Rebuilt long blocks and no timing cover

Been looking into replacing my 22RE with a rebuilt/remanned engine, maybe going to order one online. A lot of places don't supply valve cover, timing cover, oil pan. Doesn't the timing cover have to be attached to the block when they deck it to ensure it's all even? How do they properly install the head gasket without the timing cover on? Am I confusing timing chain cover with timing cover (thought the were same thing?) Doesn't this picture of the long block they are selling HAVE the timing cover attached??

If I'm totally off base here go ahead a rip on me. I did post in the newbie section after all.

I would never get an engine if it didn't have the timing cover on. Valve covers and oil pan can be left off...

That engine does have the timing chain cover on it.

One can never go by pictures on line.

My question is why sell a fresh rebuild without a New Oil Pump!!!

Then again it could be just a typo on the web page.

Like all else one gets what you pay for.

No reason to buy a half assed rebuilt motor. Plenty of reputable rebuilt motors ready to drop in or rebuild yourself.

I'd love to get one, and it's rad they are TOTALLY complete... guess that's what $2K gets you.

Yeah, I have no allegiance to unitedengines.com or anything, I saw a link in some other post and $925 was the cheapest I had seen for a (short) "long block". Not going to go with them anyway between no oil pumps and trying to cram the original timing cover on. Recipe for disaster. Plus, buying online seems to add a lot of expense freighting the new engine to me and the core back.

Yup, if I'm gonna pull this thing it damn well better only be once.

I'm pretty sure I got a lead on a guy who does yota rebuilds in Denver. I'm sorta far from there but I haven't found anything any closer, especially anybody reputable with toyotas. I'll hopefully just get all my own parts (OEM gaskets and such) and just have him do the stuff beyond my ability.
