My First Project Truck

I picked up my project truck this past weekend. Its an 82 SR5 4X4 short bed. This is my second 82 but my first was a 2wd. I've good a lot of good ideas for this truck after browsing yototech for the past month straight. I really want a YOTOTECH t-shirt. So i drove 2 1/2 hours to go get the truck and the guy told me it runs a lil warmer and i said ok no bigger well on the way home at night it started to over heat going up grades. I got it home and changed the thermostat, water pump, coolant and it was still running hot after i flushed the radiator and block. After i did some research on here I saw some people talking about the fan clutch. So while the engine was running I took a roll of newspaper and stuck in the fan to see if the fan clutch was bad and i barely touched the fan and it stopped it. So I went and bought a new fan clutch and put it on. For some reason i asnt thinking i stuck the newspaper in there again to check it and it didnt want to stop and i made it stop. Now it turns just like the old one did barely touched it and it stops. I didnt even drive it with the new clutch to see if it fixed it before i broke it. But I have a feeling that isnt my problem. I just ordered a new radiator cause thats the last thing. I'll put the new radiator this weekend when i get home. Any other info would be greatly appreciated.

Here are a few pictures of the truck let me know what you think. I'll post moe up this weekend when i get home. I took the camper shell and the lumber rack off.

I love it!. I've always really liked the look of the short bed early toyota pick ups. Best of luck with the build, I'm excited to see what you do with it.

are your sure you flushed the block? installed thermostat in correct position? burped system? park it on a hill with the rear lower then the front with it running and see if you get bubbles, seems like if you replaced the whole cooliong system it should be fine, maybe the guage is faulty?

Yeah I'm sure i flushed the block, installed the thermostat correctly, burped it, jacked the fron of the truck up higher than the back of the motor, what ended up being my problem was the radiator. the truck runs great now.

Yeah the truck was on craigslist. It was on S.F. bay craigs.

I got bored sitting in the trailer so I started buffing the paint out.

Finally got the cab done. You can see how dark my side windows are. The bed is going to take a lot more work ughh.

Here's a random pic.

I put a Magnaflow muffler on too. I really like the sound of it. Its not to loud until you get to 4k. When your driving at 55 you dont even realize that its there. Here is a short vid of the sound of it the last rev is at redline.
