Trying to Remove Brake Rotor, Having Issues

I am trying to replace a broken wheel lug bolt on a 1987 4Runner and going through the steps is pretty straightforward until I remove the Aisin locking hub. Once I remove the front piece I get to a nut/bolt that will not allow me to remove the rest of the assembly.

Photos are below, any suggestions will be welcome. I've done this before on an 88 Runner, but the inside was not the same as this one.

How would I go about removing this bolt? I have a feeling it's either really simple and i'm just missing it or I did something stupid.

I've tried google and the search, but I think I'm just using the wrong terminology because I can't come up with anything.

Thanks!

Sure there's not a C clip on the axle shaft too?

Just put a socket on the bolt head and pop it quick to bust loose, like with an impact.

@Waskill I don't see one.

I don't see any clips on the axel shaft. Just that bolt, which spins the axel when I turn it.

I haven't found any documentation on it. I have the FSM and there is no mention of it.

I am by no means a pro at this, but this is my second Runner so I'm pretty familiar with them, and usually do all the normal maintenance stuff myself. I'm just stuck on that piece.

Thanks for the reply

If the bolt is really tight, you could always put the tire back on and lower it back to the ground to hold the wheel/axle from turning(you will have to start the truck and put it in 4wd tho).... usually just a quick pop to the ratchet with a bfh does the trick.

plan A i use an impact wrench.
plan B use a dead blow mallet on a ratchet
plan C call a friend that has a plan A

i think the clip is behind the bolt/washer
use the bolt to hold the axle out to install clip

you took off those gosh forsaken cone washers too, right?

as far as the bolt, i've done a couple and they all require taking a long breaker bar (my favorite is the long "breaker ratchet" like a 1/2 drive) set it too loosen, sit it at about 9ish 10oclockish, with your right hand hold it still giving it alittle bit of downward tension, and with your left had take a good whack at the end of the hanle with a nice 5lb. mahl or something similar.

and if not...X2 on the breaker bar

same problem

I'm having the same problem removing my brake rotor from my 4wd 1987 4runner. I removed the caliper, removed the automatic locking hub cover, removed the bolt and washer, and removed the six nuts, six washers and six tapered washers. I then removed the locking hub housing and removed a lock spring from around the axles shaft. Previous posts refer to a 54mm nut but I don't see any large nut around the axle shaft. What could be preventing the rotor from moving?
Please note that I've never removed a rotor before so my nomenclature might be suspect.

Dead center is axle shaft. Around that should be the spindle. Around the spindle will be two 54mm nuts that hold the rotor/hub to the spindle. Nut, (fold down) Tab washer, then another nut.

If you have auto hubs then your auto hub mechanism needs to be removed as it is in place of the 54mm nut assembly.

wabbit, now that is what i was waiting to hear--- there is no 54 mm nut assembly. My hub brake shoe is cracked. Is it worth it to try to buy parts for it or should I try to get a new auto hub? Are there alternatives that might work better?

Get manual hubs and throw the auto hubs in the scrap pile.

Look at the FSM as it has diagrams of all the hub types.
