So I did the 7mg swap on my 90 Toyota pickup. This required a SAS as you all may well know. I used tye rear springs off a 90's Toyota pickup, but these were way to soft so when i put the engine in the springs just went flat and rested on the overload. I talked to the local offroad shops and they recommended going to the scrap yard and "building" my own leaf pack. I also heard/read that the springs on a jeep are very similar in size to the Toyota springs. I was wondering if anybody knows what leafs off of what vehicles would support the engine, or where i could find this info. If it helps the eye to eye on the springs needs to be between 46.5" and 48" the latter may even be pushing the shackle back to far, but this might be because the springs are flat. From front hanger to vertically hanging shackle is about 47".

 

It seems like people who put in a heavier engine go with actual lift springs; but they go with a spring with more lift than the rear spring, and they use heavy duty springs. I would recomment anything you get to have a military wrap. It is nice to save money where you can, but front springs are not one of those places in my opinion.

 

Although it was for rear springs, I had a local spring shop do mine. They custom build the packs. I've been really happy with it. It was around 550 installed with all new hardware. I'd have to look at the receipt but if I remember right the packs were about 350 an axle. I would maybe check into something like that so you get exactlly what you want.

 

northwestoffroad.com had very nice heay suspensions for all applications and for you engine swaps i have bought alot of stuff from them and they are very good to work with and there tech service is great also
if i remember correctly they are out of washington .. but atleast over on that side of the country

 

Go to a junk yard and get a set of 48" rear toyota springs and add a few leafs to each side of your current packs.

They are from Washington, yes, and you are the ONLY person I've ever seen have a lick of good to say about them, consider yourself lucky. The few parts of theirs I've had were god awful.

OP, stock rear springs will do the same thing under a 22R, most folks run 6-7 leaves in a front pack.
