Putting an 88 4runner body on an 85 pickup frame

I'm wanting to put my 88 4runner body on an 85 4x4 pickup extra cab frame. Will it be a direct bolt on? I'm sure that waskily Wabbit could tell me. anybody.....anybody......Beuler. Thanks for any info.

Im not sure but I don't think it's a direct bolt on if it would work at all. Why are you wanting to swap frames? Just to have the solid axle or are there other reason?

Anything is possible with a plasma cutter and a welder. It's not a "bolt on".

I've put an 84 runner body on an 88 pickup frame.so the same swap. All the cab mounts from the pickup will bolt in. the rear ones ar different. I had to cut two off and ditch a couple body lift pucks to line your
It took me three.days when I was in high school. Welder and cutting tools are a must. I say go for it

I think the extra cab pickup frame to a 4runner maybe harder then a reg pickup cab frame. I did a swap with an 85 pickup to a 87 cab, both reg cab and it bolted right up. Waskilywabbit said it the best, do it and make it work.. Good luck....Bill

I am doing the sas but figured this since the axle was already in and I can clean and paint the frame new break lines clean gas tank ect it will be easier to put in the new engine and everything else. I'm doing a complete build using three trucks and I want to do it right and once! I just pulled the truck body and see I do have to change the rear mounts I was mainly concered about the two frames being the same length. I can run a string on the truck but it's going to be a pain on my 4runner because it's all together and I'm doing this in the yard on my back. another reason to pull the bodies to do all this I can install everything open at waist height with no interference.

If you have a Toyota FSM, they have frame blueprints that has locations of all the mounting holes and should have the points on the frames, you can compair the diffence type of frames..

Or fab your own mounts.

I did a swap for the same reason SAS ....Bill

Thanks for the blue print info Bill. Since my donner truck was the long bed extended cab the wheel base was about 7" more than my runner so I'm just going to use my frame and do a sas. This truck is going to be my traveling hunting truck. I've got a Bronco I put a 460 engine in with zf5 tranny, I used the 10" sterling rear and did a sas from a f350 4x4. I get about 10 miles to the gallon but can drag to chevys through the mud hole with me. Happy 4rth everyone!!

A couple more questions. Is it normal if only one hub is locked that the gears still spin freely? does it take both hubs locked before engaged? Also on this top mount steering box on this 85 how do you remove the rubber cases that hold the grease? I would like to replace mine but there must be some kind of trick. Nice colors on your Wabbit, Wabbit. Nothing looks better than our flag.
