400 small block install for 94 4runner

Im sick of this weak 3.0 and have a nice 400 chevy small block sitting in my shop. My question is what transmission/transfer case configuration do i need for my 94 4Runner 4x4? i was told the existing auto trans would not work because of electronic shift issues when switching to a carb engine. any advice or parts recomendations would be helpful...

switch to a manual, use advance adapters for a bell housing, or use GM 400turbo auto and atlas t-case. Putting in the v8 means you're gonna have to do a lot of fab work anyway.

fab work wouldn't be a problem at all as i own a machine shop so i'm ready for that. just couldn't get a good answer as to what set up i would need. im thinkin on buying a silverado off my father in law that has a blown motor but good running gears. figured i could scavange what i needed off that

i would like to get 10 in wheels on it soon as well. its a factory truck but suprising to me when i found it there was no rust, dents or driveline problems at all. engine was junk so i parked it in my shop. started looking at building it but for the cost i may as well just v8 the thing and be done with it. only gave 800 for it so not a bad deal

Is this a just because project or do you have a purpose behind putting the V8 in?

well im a gear head and i love HP so the 3.0 just doesnt get it with me. i have a DD so it gonna be a project truck. got a cool idea using some left over hydro systems i have. its a really nice truck so i dont want to butcher it up too much. the 400 is tricked out so it looks really good, rock crawler engine i built but never used. 435HP without the supercharger or N.O.S . was using dual carbs but went back to a single 850cfm edelbrock. i know the stock axles would explode so those are gonna be beefed up as well if i use the 400. i thought also of making a adapter plate for the transfer case and bolting the turbo trans to the toyota box but im not sure how much the stock unit will handle before turning into metal shavings and goop. lol

x2 what bob said ^ that would be one strong runner.if you use a toyota transfer case, a gear drive from a 4 cyl is stronger than your chain drive case but you still have the weak stock stuff.

This is a topic more suited for the engine swap forums.
