Hey all,

Do you guys know if a badly adjusted TPS affects the gear shifting on a 4Runner?

And I looked ay the picture at this link:

but I can't find it under my hood. I have '91 4Runner V6. HELP!!!!

 

It's the black thing on the back side of your TB and connected to the butterfly linkage. Its a black cylindrical piece of plastic. It has a connector going into the passenger side of it.

I'm guessing you already read that TPS page. The symptoms of a misadjusted/bad one are at the bottom of the page. It looks like it can mess up the automatic's shifting.

 

I know what TPS looks like :-))) , but I can't find where to insert a thickness gauge. In other words I can't find the throttle stop screw and the stop lever. HELP!!!!!!

 

An improperly adjusted tps can cause early shifts or late shifts, depending on which way it is off.
