front rubbing in 4wd (not tires)

So I was wheelin last weekend in eastern washington and found some pretty sweet terrain, but since I bought my truck I've been hearing this heavy RUUUUUUB RUUUUUUUB sound coming from what seems to be near my left front wheel. I have a strong suspicion that its in my steering, but has anybody else experienced this? I'm sure its not rubbing on my fenders, and it only happens in 4wd, hi and lo. It also seems to put a fair ammount of friction onto the wheels...like enough to stop the car from rolling even when its on small hills.

Any tips will help, thanks.

My truck makes that noise all the time and I'm quite sure it's the front driver side axle. Mine is ADD so the axles spin even in 2wd. The boot is torn and it was when I bought it a few weeks ago. Check the boots on your front axles, if one is torn it's probably an axle.

Is the runner stock? possible friction of driveshaft and crossmember when it is torquing up. I had this issue with my first built crossmember and dual t-cases. Just an idea

The pickup is stock, only mod is the 3.4l engine. After some more trail runs it seems like it doesn't have enought grease in the axles or something. Seems to work fine when I just barely use it, but heavy usage in 4wd causes the rub, which, when it happens, is getting worse.

So what's the remedy? Is there anything I can fix w/ some grease and zip ties, or duct tape?

I used liquid lubricant sprayed every joint I could think that would make noise, and magically all the noises went away, try this might work for you, and its like 8$ a can for what I bought.. 8$ for no more noise is money well spent to me

Dually noted. Did you use a certain kind or was it just any liquid lube, like wd 40?

I would use a non dirt attracting lubricant, ask the parts store when you go, any lubricant such as 226, not wd40 because it pulls in dust/dirt.
I think it was made by luiqud wrench not completely sure don't have the can on hand to check

If ur cv shaft is toast, which, if the boot is torn, dirt has gotten in there, I would replace that a.s.a.p.... ever seen a cv shaft come apart at 60 mph? I have, and it aint pretty.... Fix the obvious stuff 1st, and move on from there.... Or... invest in some manual hubs, and only lock them when absolutely needed... and even then, dont be surprised when it comes apart and leaves u stuck in a mud hole....

Ok, so it happened real bad today driving to work in 2wd on the freeway goin 65...pulled over, hopped out, gave it my mean look and it was fine the rest of the drive (but I didn't dare go over 65).
Boot doesn't look torn, but it seems as if something is twisting it from the inside. Took a pic will post up what I'm talkin about later

Indeed. You need to pull the axle out and tear apart that spindle More than likely the brass bushings are toast.

Ok so next question, how did this happen? Bad seals? Too many mudpuddles? I did wheel bearing on that side about 3 months ago but was positive I put enough grease back in it...

Oh, young grasshopper

Disconnection of the lower ball joint (4 bolts) makes this job 10000 times easier.
