my gas gauge stopped working?

my gas gauge stopped working?
so my truck has been sitting for 3 or 4 months at the house without gas in it, i finally got around to to moving it i put 5 gallons of gas in it and the gas gauge no longer works. and it worked before. and mind you it sat for 3 years before i got a hold of it and when i got it the gauge worked fine. any ideas?? thanks in advance this problem is really driving me up the wall
