22re to 3.4L in a beastly 85 4runner on 40" iroks :)
Hey guys,
I am getting ready to swap in a 3.4L and r150 from a 97 T100 into my 1985 4runner 22re 5spd.
Here she is...isn't she purdy

I have dug through tons of threads but am wondering if someone can help me out a bit with the wiring. I saw an awesome step by step for 3.0 to 3.4 but nothing for 22re.
Also, will my 22re fuel pump be up to snuff for the 3.4?
Pics to come of the build!

I think you're gonna have to get the fuel pump from 2nd gen trucks. Even the guys that converted their 22R to 22RE has to change the fuel pump. I think carb required less pressure than the EFI ones.

Can someone PLEASE help me with wiring 22re to 3.4 Swap...yes I searched :)
Hey guys,
I have an 85 4runner with a 22re and am putting in a 96 T100 3.4L engine in with a R150 5 speed.
I have searched through every 22re to 3.4 swap thread and tons of others but cannot find any help on the wiring.
What all do I really need to take from my factory 85 wiring/ecu and plug into the new 3.4 ecu? Powers, grounds, gauge crap, fuel pump crap?
Did anyone make a diagram or cheat sheet like was made for the 3.0 to 3.4?
thank you so much for the help

Never seen anyone post up their chest sheet on this swap.
Basically you need the factory wiring diagrams for your two vehicles and start matching wiring systems that you want to work. Pulling pins and matching them in your connectors will be much cleaner in the long run than cutting and splicing.
I know it looks daunting but persistence always beats resistance.

Yeah, the theory won't be any different than a 3.0 to 3.4 swap. Match function for function. No amount of searching will show you every pin to plug in everywhere, not even for 3.0 to 3.4 swap. Best of luck.

Wiring gods, please help! 22re to 5vz but won't start and no spark!!!!!!
Hey guys,
I put a 3.4 out of a 96 T100 in my 85 4runner in place of the 22re. The engine came out in running condition I was told but I can't get the damn thing to run.
After looking it over I pulled a plug wire out of the drivers side bank and put a plug in it, grounded it and found I have no spark while cranking.
I looked at the FSM and at the ECU connector, checked cam and crank sensor resistance.
Cam sensor was 1.1 k ohms and crank was 2.1 k ohms so my cam, crank and wiring between the ecu and the sensors all checks out. I then cranked hte engine while checking AC voltage at the ecu and have .7V AC while cranking which tells me that the crank sensor at least appears to be working fine.
I have power to my coils, power to my injectors, my ignitor power and ground are both good.....I AM STUMPED!
What am I missing?
I also ran redundant engine grounds to make sure I didn't miss one.

I'm sure it's throwing codes as I have no evap. I am getting fuel, compression is unknown but the guy drove hte truck into his garage before pulling the engine.

two things... I am bumping this thread because I am going to be doing swaps like this and I want to see it solved.
second thing, have you checked to make sure your VAFM is hooked up properly? I heard that thing screw people up a fair bit. I know it controls fuel but I am not sure if it tells the computer so it wouldn't allow the ignition to fire through the ignitor. just a thought.

Hey man, I got it running and just need to final weld my exhaust, bleed the clutch, and some other loose odds and ends. Unfortunately right when I got it going I had to leave for France for a week so starting Monday I'm wrenching some more.
