Gennro 1986 4runner DLX

Well hello all this is just some documentation on my newly acquired 1986 Toyota 4runner DLX. It has 196,000 miles on the clock. I bought it overheating on the 85 mile drive home. Very poor maintenance done and some very terrible wiring. Its just a stock 22RE with a W56 and R1FA. I did find out after I bought it that it does have a lunchbox locker in the rear. Has pro comp tires 31x10.50 will sport these until they stop doing their job.

The best thing is....... NO RUST.

So I ended up fixing all the problems. Engbldr 261C cam installed, Pacesetter header, basic tune up etc.

I am waiting on the new radiator to show up and a SR5 guage cluster, and some other crap.

Future plans bumpers sliders etc. Wheel the ˟˟˟˟ outta it, herculine the inside (get rid of carpet), and do the half herculine/ flat desert tan paint job on the outside. The 4runner has some really crappy red paint job and some bondo work which I'll take care of.

Yeah, eventually when I find another 22R engine to rebuild. Will be a full turbo 22RE build..........

Well on to some pictures....... yay.

On the way back from El Paso, TX after buying it. Had to let the engine cool down about every 20 to 30 miles, but we got it home!

Never seen an interior like that before. You know the story behind it at all?

Dunno about the holes in the hood. How's the distributor handle rain?

Well the interior was done by the previous owner and so was the hood, I'll be locating a stock hood at a later date. I live in the desert it doesn't rain here.

The interior will slowly get redone into more of a offroading fashion.

That interior is something else. You have the Christmas theme going on, almost like a candy cane.

Well some more work today. I found this interesting bit of information on AFM tuning....
http://www.wheelsjamaicahost.com/whe...c=46172.0;wap2
So I took the cover off the AFM moved the wheel 2 clicks counter clockwise, advanced timing from 6 to 8 degrees. Huge improvement for overall power. I also adjusted the air bypass screw out 2 1/2 turns to clean up the idle a bit.

Also replaced the blower motor today. Air still doesn't blow as well as it should. I have replaced the blower resistor and blower relay. Any other tips on improving blower performance?

I also got my SR5 cluster in and installed.

Haha, no. I would much rather do a 3rz swap if anything this time but the 22RE will be staying for awhile. The one i have is real strong.

But after a bit of research for awhile now I think I'll do a turbo'd 22re. I have ton of experience with turocharged engines. I would like to retain A/C and all other stock functions.

Well I pulled the trigger turbo 22R-E here we come! Ordered some schedule 40 pipe/bends/T's from these guys that came out to 80 bucks shipped. http://www.acestainless.com/

I'll be ordering a 5/8s steel flange from a guy off ebay later today for around 40 bucks.

Yes I will be fabricating a log style turbo manifold. I'm not concerned about flow since I want to to keep a reliable setup and keep pressures below 10psi.

I'm thinking i'll get a T25 variant turbo for fast repsonse. I'm looking at running about 6psi for now.

To start I will be running a small intercooler and will install a aermotive rising rate fuel regulator and a LC-1 wideband to monitor everything. If the stock computer gives me a bunch of ˟˟˟˟ i'll get a Mircrosquirt v3.0 and run EDIS-4.

Did a compression test today.
1 -150 2-151 3-151 4-149
Looks like good numbers to me for a turbo.

This was done with the engine still warm, but not at operating temp and cylinders dry 142psi is the low and 172psi is the high for a 22RE.
