Newbie, about to look at truck!

Hi there everyone,

This is my first post here. I have read the forums before but never joined. I have been interested in this model truck and 4runner for sometime and now I am ready to buy!

I found a 1991 Pickup 4cy 5sp with 135k miles. Looks like minimal rust. Ad says no body rust. asking price is 2,600 or best offer.

Is this a good price? KBB says 1900 for good condition I believe. Also what can I look for to be positive its a decent rig and no major mecahnical or drivetrain problems?

Ad also says "never had any major problems...fresh tune up... newer inspection"

Any thoughts or advice!

Thanks!

that sounds like a great deal! kbb can suck it.* (see if you can talk him down, though. mention what kbb value is, and see if you can get a couple hundred taken off)

welcome to yotatech.. you've come to the right place!
by the way, where ya from?

*(insurance companies will try to use kbb value, which is way lower than what these trucks are worth)

Thanks for the quick reply. Im from Southwest PA about an hour from PIttsburgh.

I felt like 1900 was way to low. I look from time to time and this the first decent truck Ive came across under 3k.
Insurance should be afforadable if they are going off that price.

Make sure to ask about the timing chain mine went from the previous owner at 140k which should have been done sooner but oh well he didn't maintain like the book recommends.

Ask questions about what has been done. Although the timing chain isn't that big of deal it is if you have someone do it(Price I mean). Good luck post pics and results if you buy it

I always ask for reciepts of parts/labor,oil changes, and what not usually don't get any, but its nice having confirmation instead of having to believe someone you don't know. Ask about head gasket and timing chain, and if it's original motor. Also if they have a plastic bed liner i'd ask to look under it, rust loves to happen there:/

Here is the link. I apologize if were not allowed links.

Do you feel this is worth $2,600. I see so many possibilities when I see a toyota pickup haha.

the bad:
-no tailgate
-mismatched bed
-slight body rust
-timing chain probably not replaced

the good:
-no dents
-fresh tune up and inspection
-low(er) miles
-no sagging butt
-solid frame

in my opinion, it's worth ~$2k obo. methinks he is trying to get as much as he can out of it, but is willing to go lower.

(links are fine, as long as that's not the only thing you post. you're good)

Thank Irab88. Good eye I didn't catch the missing tailgate. Found a replacement tailgate it runs 250 bucks though. I doubt that comes with hinges either.

if you search craigslist (try using searchtempest.com), you should be able to find one under $100

How would that be repaired? Im so hesitant I don't want to get a bad deal. I feel like others with higher mileage are selling for much more though.
