Death Shakes

I bought a 79 Yota awhile back, and about a couple months later it started shaking real bad, it doesnt do it all the time it just does it when I hit a real bad bump or when I go down rough road. I cant seem to figure out what the problem is, it would be appreciated if somebody could help me out, thanks

Agreed. Looks like we posted at the same time. Any how my suspension was extremely worn out when I got my truck. The front right of my truck still sits lower then the left side because everything is worn out. I am in the middle of putting a lift on my truck to bring the suspension back to life.

Is it the 3" Ruff Country lift? Thats what I am installing now and I had to cut the pin/bolts off that hold my leafsprings in the hangars because they were seized up. I had to order new ones from Autozone and wont get them for a couple days.

i'd check the steering damper. its like a sideway shock but it just maintains pressure instead of pushing like a shock. mine went out and i had an awful shake when i got up over like 40mph

Good thing to check, but it shouldn't cause a death wobble. After all Rack N Pinion's on the taco's don't even have a stabilizer.

Sounds like you had some unbalanced tires goin on there also.

Another thing to check is the condition of your tires. Vibration will set up at different speeds on each tire, depending on the extent of the separation of the tread, mostly due to age.

nah tires were fine it was just the steering damper on mine. it literally went out while i was driving it. stopped to get some gas and when i left it went out for some reason. probably b/c it was old at the time, but it drives fine now.

Haha, I dont even have a steering damper or a steering bar for that matter on my wolverine.
Another thing to check is the condition of your universal joint on your driveshaft. It doesnt sound like the problem but was getting god awful vibration at certain speeds when the joints got all sloppy. Got em replaced and now there's almost no vibration!
