Post TacoTacoma96's 1994 Toyota Pickup Build-up thread

This is my very first thread. The funds will come from my working man's salary and I will splurge as much as i can on my new toy I hope to fix it up as much as ol' red. So lets get started.
This is my recently bought 1994 Toyota Pickup

It is in great condition for its age. It has 227,000 miles and still feels strong.

the tires are some street (made in Taiwan) tires that came with the truck. will be replaced by some BF Goodrich all-terrains soon

A new Flowmaster 44 dual exhaust was put on recently. had to take it to a muffler shop.they did a Darn good job on it.

However there was a small problem, there is a bolt stud broke off the manifold. the cat also has a pretty bad leak. I'll get it fixed mid-week. the bolt stud is broke off completely as you can see here.

The interior is really clean. that was one of the reasons I traded my Ford F-150 for it. Plus the good gas Mileage. Even complete with a 8 Ball shifter.

The Motor is a 22RE 2.4 L4. one of my favorite motors ever made.. Most recent upgrades is a cold air intake and E3 spark plugs, they made one Heck of a difference.

That's all the bases covered. when I get more stuff done i'll post more, little or not.

Those are both really nice trucks. On the broken exhuast stud, more then likely it will be the back bottom stud. On the E3 plugs, was it mileage or performance that made a difference? Looking forward to your build.

cherry red 3rd gens are the sexiest!
really clean truck! with the mods to the exahust and intake you should really look into getin a header like downey's and a borla cat with less restriction, that with the e3 plugs (haven't heard anything but good things about them) and good maint. should make a diference.

what tire size are you planing? up to 32" should be good for you. mine is an xt.cab v6 and with stock aloys didn't felt any changes (30s on heavy steelies before)

also it would be great if you get some pictures of the double exahust set up...never seen it before!

E3 spark plugs are the best all around plugs I use. They give a real noticably power increase. The MPG of both my trucks was about 3-4 MPG more. There a little pricey but i'm only buying 4 anyway.I'm stuck between putting 30's or 31's All-terrians with some black or chrome Steelies. Maybe a high-flow cat to. will look into headers also.will take pic of exhaust later today. Thanks for all your compliments.

Just got my even newer exhaust on today

They cut out the rest of the old leaking pipe and put all new pipe form the manifold back.

I get my manifold leak fixed tomorrow. Man am I excited. I finally get to hear my truck minus the leaks.
Also to hiGis, here is the set up for my exhaust.

Also I forgot to mention, the muffler shop even gave me some Free chrome tips, they look dang good.
I'll post more after the manifold gets fixed.

Cool

Just got back from the repair shop today. They fixed the leak by taking the manifold off and re threading the hole.

They also made the manifold more smooth by using a grinder.

But there still is a rough idle. going to check the timing and for vacuum leaks tomorrow, also gonna buy a distributor rotor and cap. getting close to finding the cause. Will know more tomorrow.

Finally fixed the rough idle, caused by a faulty spark plug. Also there was a problem with the EGR Vacuum Modulator valve(that's really the name). that was also replaced.. Now my truck is running like a top and ticking like a clock

careful on that spare tire. You'll end up melting it with that dual pipe. Should've just stayed with a single. would've got a much louder result.

I plan on taking the spare off anyway because the tire won't hold any air and I'm gonna go up to 31s. My exhaust sounds a lot louder in person. Just the right amount of sound for me. I'm gonna
Upgrade the stereo and speakers next.

Post Update:

My truck now has 228.400 miles and its been running good till just recently. Can you guess what's missing?
The cooling fan came off the radiator because the plastic push pins broke off so the fan just flopped around in the shroud. I got it back home so me and my dad could work on it. we took the radiator completely out.
the fan itself was okay minus a small nick from the hitting the belt.

we changed the plastic pins and the fan's back in place. while we had the radiator out of the way we took the opportunity to adjust the valves.
It was a cold adjustment but after putting everything back together and putting in fresh coolant plus adjusting the idle the engine runs great..

Cool

Its been a While. here's the most recent things I've done so far:
-Had the front end aligned.
-Put the stock air intake back on(the one was never tight and hit the pulley every now and then)
-The mileage is currently at 230,065 miles
Now for the pics
I put a CB in and never could decide where to put it so I came up with this...
I dont know if this is ever been done before but it turned out great for me. plus i came up with a mount for a Mag-Lite to. This is what I thought when I was trying to decide where to cut my beautiful dashboard .lol but I like it alot. also put in new stereo and rear speaker with a built in amp. got pics coming later.

Unhappy The End

Well This is the last post for this build. It started about a week ago when the alignment was off for the third time. I took my truck to auto class to check the ball joints and tie-rods. What I found was a lot worse.

The leaf spring mount was sheared completely off . Its been like that for at least 3 weeks. the instructors all said I was lucky that my rear axle didn't pass me on the interstate. The body shop teacher said he'd fix it free of charge. But they told me I was better off selling it because the frame was patched before and will most likely break again. So I sold it and got a '99 4runner. The build up thread coming soon. I thank everyone for the views and comments

Unhappy

Well its time to say goodbye to the '94. She has been sold to a good friend of mine. She was a great truck but had problems.
