1998 Limited rear window issue

Hello back again just finished up replacing pretty much everything that has to do with front suspension parts today! So now my rear window will not go up or down when earlier in the day it was working just fine it wont work from the switch or the key. I tried to search for a possible answer but any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks Ahead Russ

I have an 98 and had a similar issue. no wiper, no window action. had 3 different mechanics look at this.... they were all stumped. then i started to have battery issues, a parasitic draw....took it to the dealer and they killed it. found that it was the key switch in the rear hatch. it was stuck in the close position. 30$ part. it solved both problems

I had a similar problem. broken wires where the tailgate meets the body. pull back the rubber boot and try that.

Little soder and all good.

i had this identical problem on my 98 ltd. nothing back there worked and my battery was being slowly drained. instead of buying new switch i ended up taking the switch off completely and that also works. of course i can't use the key to roll down window but i never did anyways. the interior switch still works as does everything else. someday i might replace it. all you have to do is open the rear panel on the hatch and right over the top of the key tumbler thing is a plastic switch that is clipped over the top with a wire harness. unhook the harness and that should fix all your problems. replace it or just leave it unhooked, or remove completely. sounds like its a pretty common problem.

Rear window

I am the original owner of a 1998 base model 4Runner and recently my rear window switch stopped controlling the window although the key still works. I am not a mechanic but would love to trouble shot the problem if someone would be willing to help me find the possible issues.

Now would be a good time to invest in a Multi Meter !!

Did you put the window lock switch on by mistake??

The switch just died from all the coffee and other liquids spilled on the switch.
