3.4 Engine Auto / Manual Trans
I have a 1997 4Runner I just bought. It has a 5 Speed stuck in 4th gear and I can't get it out. The engine has 270k miles so I'm thinking about just doing the engine and transmission at the same time. Other than the flywheel / flexplate what other differences are there? The engine runs ok and the previous owner told me no problem with it but it does leak some oil here and there.
Thanks for the help,

What are your plans for the rig?
As far as the trans, has anyone or you looked at it? How did it get stuck in 4th? It could be a bent shift fork, retainer, detent ball, foreign debris, or any number of failures.
If you're doing the work yourself, trans work is relatively inexpensive. If you're paying a shop, you can easily be over $1000 to split the case and find out what's going on inside.
So with that on mind, do you want to add an engine rebuild to the price?
